If my scarves don’t swaddle me in pure fluffy warmth, are they any good? Granted my reasoning makes sense only because I wear scarves out of necessity, yet this doesn’t mean I will not hunt for the most stylish options. I briefly considered finding Lenny’s oversized scarf, but my Brooklyn closet would not allow it so I found the next best alternative in the Loewe Fringed Leather-Trimmed Mohair-Blend Scarf.
Receiving it as a Christmas gift was not on my 2023 bingo card, but I can’t say I wasn’t thrilled given my affinity for Loewe. I remember being vaguely curious about the mohair texture when I first saw it on Net-a-Porter, but not curious enough to abandon the two wool scarves I had cherished up until that point. Retailing for a steep $350, the designer item offers what some would call a “low entry point” into the brand universe, but the price tag seriously raises some eyebrows. The mohair and wool blend composition partially explains it as they are superior fibers for the production of winter apparel, but one still has to wonder what sets this product apart. Does the quality live up to its value or should you turn to the trusty world of dupes?

First Impression of the Loewe Mohair Scarf
Once I calmed down from the excitement of opening my gift, I felt nervous about the mohair fabric. My mind flashed back to the rash I once got from an itchy mohair sweater back in college, and didn’t want this to be another one of those experiences. Seeing that it was love at first sight, the neutral color being a match for everything in my closet, I had already convinced myself that I would make it work either way. But I was relieved to find out I wouldn’t have to contend with another itchy thing; the scarf felt cozy and deliciously fuzzy rather than irritatingly scratchy. Wrapping it around your neck is equivalent to holding a warm cup of tea—gentle and comforting.

Testing the Loewe Mohair Scarf
I waited until the weather dropped below 40 degrees to put the scarf to the test as I found myself sweating with it on during an extended fall walk. Last year’s brisk winter days presented quite the challenge and the scarf delivered on its basic promise of keeping me warm. I only had to wrap it around my neck once to keep the wind at bay, which made for a very comfortable experience. If you hate having to constantly adjust your scarf, you’ll like that this one will quietly rest on your shoulders. The scarf doesn’t feel suffocating or heavy, which is another feature I appreciate. It also comes in a great length—not so long that you have to wrap it around multiple times or so short as to be pointless—and it is just thick enough to provide complete insulation. Sure the fabric tickled me a few times, but my skin did not feel irritated even after spending hours with the scarf on. The best part? It doesn’t shed at all. If you didn’t have a lint roller before, this scarf wouldn’t be the reason you need one.

How To Style The Loewe Scarf
I wear this scarf on repeat because it’s both versatile and polished—a description that doesn’t often apply to winter accessories. When it comes to luxury items, whether I splurge on them myself or receive them as gifts, I usually go for the colors I’ll wear the most so it was perfect that this gift came in camel. Because of its length and thickness, the scarf goes best with tailored silhouettes as it can look busy with a fur coat or a puffer jacket. I love that it can seamlessly transition from day to night. For a daytime vibe, I like to wear the scarf with a version of knitwear and casual denim, then switch to a wool coat and slip dress or slinky top and leather skirt silhouette at night. It gives any look a directional attitude while also adding a fun element of sass.

Is the Loewe Scarf Worth it?
In reality, you can probably find a decently made alternative for a lower price point, but the fabric quality and wearability factor make the purchase worth it in the long run. There is clearly a high markup, but the scarf does fulfill its basic job of keeping you completely insulated from those nasty chills. I mean, how many winter scarves does one truly need? In an ideal world, multiple colors but a few neutral pieces will do in the real world. Knowing that scarves are investment pieces, if you can afford to splurge on this one, I’d highly recommend it. Needless to say, it makes an excellent holiday gift.
