In the summer, I live in Dissh dresses. The brand has earned a spot in my closet with its selection of casually elegant clothes. Founded by Lucy Henry-Hicks, Dissh excels at infusing a sense of Australian cool in its minimalist designs. Think breezy linen dresses or sultry yet relaxed slip numbers that are easy to put on and work for different occasions. After spending much of winter in the Matilda coat, I’m ready to show the dresses underneath.
I have been wearing the brand for a couple years, and I particularly like the linen and knit pieces. I have worn each thing at least four times, and the quality has held up over time. The clothes are generally lightweight, but they have a good consistency to them and are some of the most comfortable looks I’ve worn. I’m guessing this has to do with the brand’s commitment to using natural fibers. Although there are some dresses made out of polyester and other synthetic fibers like nylon, the majority of them use 100% cotton or linen. As a result, they feel good on the skin and tend to last longer than your average fast fashion buy. The average dress retails for $170, which falls under neither fast fashion nor luxury, but a more budget-friendly alternative along the spectrum.
As a creature of habit, I regularly find myself on the website, perusing new arrivals. From sleeveless knit pieces to seductive slip dresses, you will find a look for your upcoming travels, local city adventures, and everything in between. Ahead, I’ve compiled a curation of dresses to live out your best summer dreams in style.
Ivy Sleeveless Dress
I wore the Ivy Sleeveless Dress for a recent trip to Miami, and it handled the humidity pretty well. I felt pretty comfortable as the mostly viscose fabric is breathable, and combined with nylon, it stretches just lightly. In addition, the plissé ribbed knit has a subtle sheen that adds a touch of elevation. With its timeless look, don’t be surprised if you hold onto it for years.
Monique Knit Dress
A sultry take on the timeless little black dress, this Monique Midi Dress exudes confidence. The cutout details on the chest add an element of edginess to this otherwise classic silhouette. The high round neckline and fitted style cinch perfectly at the waist for an hourglass figure. This knit piece is ideal for any formal outing where you might feel you have to look put together but don’t necessarily want to appear so. Pair this with classic pumps and you are off to a night out.
Anika Dress
Summer and strapless dresses go together like winter and wool jackets. Reach for the Anika Dress for upcoming garden soirées or an island chic wedding dress code. The twisted knot detail adds a wink-wink feminine touch and elevates the strapless silhouette a step further. When Shelcy wore it in Miami, she paired it with clear PVC heels for rooftop cocktails.
Asher Dress
Having worn the Asher midi dress a few times, I can confirm it’s as comfortable as it looks. It’s the kind you throw on and forget you’re wearing anything because it’s both breathable and practical. From the deep V neckline to the sculpting silhouette, it’s flattering all around. Wear it poolside with slide sandals or dress it up with an oversize blazer and strappy heels for a casual chic night out.
Milahn Dress
Stay cool and look good all summer long in the Milahn dress. With its slip-on silhouette and versatile design, it has all the elements of a reliable summer staple. Throw it over a bathing suit for beach days? Absolutely. Style it with flats for your next flight? Why not? Or, pair it with wedge sandals or mules for a laidback alfresco dinner? Go ahead! Nothing screams summer like a crisp white dress.
Cass Dress
From day to night, get you a dress that can do both. With its asymmetric neckline and draped design, the Cass Dress effortlessly cool too. Style it with strappy sandals for a daytime brunch party and add a few more inches with heels at night. It cinches up the waist nicely, adding sex appeal, and somehow looks polished despite the linen fabric.
Coco Sleeveless Dress
When I see tie-dye, I instantly think of summer camps and concert tees, but the Coco Sleeveless dress might’ve convinced me to give the style another look. I love the subdued color palette, which makes it more wearable; it’s minimalist with a twist. Pair it with low brown heels and a wide-brim hat for the next wine tasting.
Lulu Midi Dress
Add a fun twist to your regular slip dress with this funky patterned number. The Lulu Midi Dress is an eye turner with its playful print. A great contender for beach days or running around the city, it packs comfort and style all in one. If you’d like to transition it to nighttime, try dressing it up with a black blazer and stilettos.
Eva Dress
While knits in the sweltering heat may not be an obvious choice, the Eva Dress is worth making an exception for. You will breathe easy as the viscose fabric doesn’t retain heat, plus it can stretch to accommodate any post-meal discomfort. It molds to your body, and the sweetheart neckline gives it a feminine charm. Wear it on a cruise, a first date or at the next office party.
Rowan Dress
The Rowan Dress is the ideal number for beating these summer rays in style. With a strapless fit, breathable fabric and a flirty length, it’s a style designed to flatter any silhouette and convey a sense of effortless cool.
